Done! Chelsea set to announce £42m deal for PL superstar

Chelsea are interested in Leicester City midfielder Riyad Mahrez, according to reports. The Algerian international, who won the PFA Player of the Year award when the Foxes won the title in 2015/16, has been linked with a move away from the King Power Stadium, but speculation about his future has intensified ahead of the January transfer window.

Roma were reportedly close to signing the winger in the summer, but they did not make an offer which was deemed acceptable.

Leicester have lost several of their title-winning squad, with the likes of N'Golo Kante and Danny Drinkwater heading to Chelsea.

The 26-year-old has previously hinted that he has aspirations to play at a higher level, claiming a potential move was "blocked".

"Yes, (there will be) no problem if something comes up.

"But behind the scenes they were blocking stuff — talking to clubs but just not wanting to sell me. I'm confident. Contract or no contract, I believe I will get to the top. When you have quality, and show it, there's no problem."
