Madrid's first January transfer is good news for Man Utd

Real Madrid are poised to sign Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in January, as the club look to strengthen, after a poor start has left them eight points adrift of Barcelona. Bilbao had been in negotiations with their number one as they attempted to tie him down to a new contract, but Los Blancos look set to poach Kepa at a cut-price, according to Don Balon, reports Calciomercato.

Kepa doesn’t want a release clause of 75 million euros in his contract and is thus, unwilling to pen a new deal at the San Mames.

Real’s acquisition of Kepa would come as good news for Jose Mourinho’s side, who will be set to keep David de Gea for more time now.

The Spaniard nearly joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2015 but a move broke down in the late stages, forcing him to stay at Old Trafford. De Gea, who celebrated his 27th birthday yesterday, later signed a new deal at United soon after.
