Mourinho desperate to complete £60m transfer of PL superstar

The Red Devils have already seen an opening bid worth £40m knocked back by Spurs supremo Daniel Levy. According to the Mirror, they are set to launch a take-it-or-leave-it attempt worth £60m. If the offer is knocked back then Jose Mourinho will move onto other targets. Mourinho is on the hunt for a defensive midfielder despite Michael Carrick extending his contract until 2018, reports Daily Star.

The Old Trafford club are now fearing a deal may not be done as Spurs continue to hold firm on their position to keep their midfielder.

United need to strengthen their squad after finishing sixth last season but have the added pressure of Champions League football after winning the Europa League.

And Dier is one of Mourinho’s top targets with the former Sporting Lisbon man’s head reported to have been turned by a move.

But he signed a new five-year deal worth around £70,000-a-week last September so Spurs will not struggle to stop any move taking place.

And the North London club strengthened their hand even more by selling Kyle Walker to Manchester City for £50m. Nemanja Matic is another option for Mourinho but a deal being struck with Chelsea seems unlikely.
