Mourinho Confirm $41.6m deal for Spaniard - reports

Herrera only has one year left on his current deal but the scale of his new contract can be revealed by the Daily Star Sunday today. We understand the Spain international midfielder will sign a four-year contract at £200,000-a-week – PLUS bonuses. That would guarantee fan favorite Herrera, 27, £41.6m over the length of the deal, reports The Peoples Person.

It will make him one of the highest-paid players at the club, with United hoping to announce Herrera’s new contract during the current tour of America. He is regarded as a key player by United boss Jose Mourinho, who has made him the club’s vice-captain.

But Herrera will end up skippering United in most of their matches in the coming season. Herrera had been linked with a move to Barcelona but has stayed at Old Trafford to build on his career under Mourinho after picking up his first cap for the Spain squad under the Portuguese boss.

He’s been a sensational player and even though fans would have hoped for him to cement his place in the team earlier, we’re glad that he’s finally receiving the recognition he deserves.
