Midfielder Talks about Deal between Real Madrid and Man Utd

Manchester United were widely expected to raid Real Madrid for Morata earlier this summer after failing to lure Antoine Griezmann away from Atletico Madrid. The Spain international had his heart set on a reunion with Jose Mourinho, who gave him his Real debut back in December 2010. However, the Red Devils ultimately opted to spend £75million on Everton hitman Romelu Lukaku, reports Express.

Herrera said:

‘I even started to think I’d be playing with Morata. He was really close to signing,’ the midfielder told Spanish publication AS.

‘It’s a shame he’s not with us but he’s a top striker and will do well wherever he plays.’

Real had requested goalkeeper David de Gea in any deal for Morata, though Herrera says he will do everything he can to get his compatriot to remain at Old Trafford.

He continued: ‘He’s happy and I know this is going to sound repetitive because I always say the same by David is one of the few keepers who wins you points. I’m going to do everything I can to make sure he stays.’
