Man Utd star tells Mourinho: "I want to join Real Madrid"

De Gea was linked with a move to Real Madrid earlier this summer but the rumors have cooled over the last few weeks. The La Liga giants came close to signing the Spaniard back in August 2015 but a deal was not able to be completed before the transfer window slammed shut, reports Daily Star.

ESPN's Dawson says the Spain international dreams of playing for Real.

"United have always been pretty certain that he wouldn't be sold. He's one of their stars, he's under contract, there's no need to sell him.

"The difficulty is that David has always had a dream to play for Real Madrid, he's made that quite clear to Jose.

"The one thing about David is he's not the type to push for a deal. There are players who would threaten to go on strike and say they weren't going to play.

"That's not really David De Gea at all. If he's not allowed to go, he won't."

And Dawson reckons De Gea must make a decision soon or risk missing out on the chance to land his dream move.

"It's difficult because at some stage Real Madrid are going to sign a goalkeeper and perhaps for the next 10 years, so the chance for David to go and play for Real Madrid will have gone," Dawson added.

"He's on the clock a bit but staying that Manchester United is not a bad alternative.

"He's very well paid, he's first choice, he's going to play in the Champions League next year.

"There's a lot to like about where he is at the moment but there's always that nagging feeling that he wants to go to Real Madrid."
