Man Utd offer to Double wages to sign Madrid Superstar; Player wants move

Manchester United are now hoping to sign Mateo Kovacic, according to reports. Sir Alex Ferguson wanted to bring him to Old Trafford when he just 17, but was put off by his £10million price tag at the time. Jose Mourinho is currently interested in snapping up the now 23-year-old as he looks to bolster his options ahead of next season in the Premier League and Champions League, -reports Tribal Football.

Kovacic wants to leave Real this summer and has already informed directors of his intentions.

The midfielder can't see a regular start for himself at Real next season and despite coach Zinedine Zidane urging him to stay, Kovacic has made it clear his current thinking is to leave.

United boss Jose Mourinho is a fan and has asked former Real Madrid GM Pedja Mijatovic for his opinion on the midfielder.

The Premier League giants are so determined to prise Kovacic away from Madrid that they're prepared double his current salary.

However, Zidane and Real president Florentino Perez views Kovacic staying as a priority and are currently speaking with him to change his mind.

Spanish news outlet Don Balon reckon Spurs are keen on the Croatian midfielder. Mauricio Pochettino could face serious competition for his signature, though. Kovacic, 23, is also wanted by Inter Milan, AC Milan and Napoli.
