Conte wants £29.75m-rated midfielder to be at Chelsea next season

Antonio Conte has told Cesc Fabregas he wants him to stay at Chelsea and promised the midfielder he will play more regularly next season. There has been uncertainty for months over Fabregas’ Stamford Bridge future and the club have signed Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko for £40million to play alongside N’Golo Kante, reports Transfer Tavern.

However, Standard Sport understands that Conte has held a meeting with the Spain international to reassure him of his role in the side. It is believed the Chelsea boss admitted to the 30-year-old that he should have played more during their title winning campaign last term.

The Evening Standard reports that Conte has held a meeting with Fabregas to assure him that he will have a greater role within the team next season. Conte looks back on leaving out the Spain international with regret.

Despite a lack of minutes, Fabregas managed to score seven goals and create 13 assists in all competitions.

That said, it is tough to work out quite where Fabregas – who is rated at £29.75m by Transfer Markt – will fit into Antonio Conte’s plans next season. A rotational role is expected, but that clearly isn’t what Fabregas will want – but with the recent arrival of Tiemoue Bakayoko and the fine form of N’Golo Kante, it seems unlikely that he will start ahead of either of the duo.
