Chelsea on verge of agreeing five-year contract for Atletico Madrid star

Carrasco is said to be intrigued by the prospect of playing in the Premier League and Atleti boss Diego Simeone must now persuade him to stay. The 23-year-old has been a big hit since signing from Monaco in the summer of 2015. He scored 14 goals across all competitions for Atletico last season - with only Kevin Gameiro and Antoine Griezmann managing more, reports Calciomercato.

Chelsea have so far endured a mixed transfer window.

Their No1 target was Romelu Lukaku, but the Belgium international instead opted to swap Everton for Jose Mourinho's Manchester United instead.

Antonio Conte’s side are believed to be ready to double the players current salary of £32,000-a-week to convince him to head to the Premier League but the fact that his current club has a transfer embargo hanging over them, meaning they cannot sign any players until January 2018, means that they are reluctant to let any of the current squad leave the Spanish capital this summer.

They remain keen on landing Real Madrid star Alvaro Morata, although the La Liga giants are likely to demand a huge fee to part with the 24-year-old who was previously on Mourinho's radar.

However, despite their struggles to sign a new striker, Chelsea have still managed to add two new players to their squad.
